THE SCROLL FIELD GUIDE 01 / 03

Podcast Hosting for Creators: What to Look For

Your host stores episodes and publishes the RSS feed that podcast apps read. Here is how to choose one that also supports the work after you publish.

What a podcast host actually does

A podcast host stores your episode media, keeps your show details and episode list in an RSS feed, and gives podcast directories a stable place to fetch new releases. The directory listing and the host are separate: a listing in Apple Podcasts or Spotify does not by itself tell you where the audio lives.

02

A practical hosting checklist

Before moving your show, check the parts that will be hard to change later.

  • Feed access: Can you find and share the RSS URL, and does the host provide a migration path?
  • Publishing: Can you set artwork, show notes, chapters, and the episode metadata your show needs?
  • Distribution: Are directory submission steps and status clear, including what you must do yourself?
  • Measurement: Can you see downloads and listener trends for the show and individual episodes?
  • Promotion: Can you turn an episode into something useful to share beyond a directory listing?
  • Limits and price: Check show, episode, storage, and transcription limits against your publishing cadence.

Where Scroll fits

Scroll is an iPhone app for hosting and promoting a podcast. You can create a show, upload finished audio or video episodes, publish to a Podcasting 2.0 RSS feed, and use guided steps to submit the feed to podcast directories. It also offers public show and episode pages, creator analytics, and tools for making captioned clips from eligible published episodes.

The free plan supports one show, five published episodes per calendar month, and 10 transcription hours per calendar month. Paid plans add unlimited publishing and transcription; confirm the current plan details before choosing a tier. If you already have a show, Scroll supports importing an owned RSS feed and guided directory handoff steps.

Choose for your next year of publishing

Write down how often you will publish, whether you need video, which directories matter to your listeners, and how you plan to promote each release. Compare hosts against that workflow, then publish a real first episode and inspect the feed before submitting it.
