THE SCROLL FIELD GUIDE 02 / 03

How to Start a Podcast RSS Feed

A podcast feed is the link between your host and listening apps. Set up the show and publish a real episode before you submit that link.

01

Prepare your show and first episode

Choose a show title and description that tell listeners what to expect. Prepare square artwork and a finished audio or video file. Add an episode title, description, and any chapter markers you want listeners to use. Keep copies of your original media and artwork.

02

Create the feed with your host

A podcast host generates and updates the RSS feed from your show and episode details. In Scroll, create a show in the iPhone app, publish your finished episode, then copy the feed URL from that show's distribution settings. You do not need to write XML by hand.

Each show has its own feed. Treat the feed URL as a durable address: changing it later can require a redirect and updates in podcast directories.

03

Check the feed before submitting

Open the feed URL and confirm it is public and includes the correct show details, artwork, and at least one playable episode. Apple Podcasts requires a publicly addressable RSS 2.0 feed with required tags, artwork, and an episode. Use your directory's validation tool to catch errors before publishing a listing.

04

Submit the same feed to listening apps

In Apple Podcasts Connect, add a new show with an RSS feed, enter the URL, and resolve any validation warnings. Follow the current submission flow for each other directory you want to reach. Scroll gives you guided directory steps, but submission and review can still require action in the directory's own account.

After a directory accepts the show, future episodes appear through the same feed. Check the public listing and play an episode there rather than assuming a submitted feed is already live.

05

Keep the feed healthy

When you publish, verify the new episode appears on the feed and in your important directories. If you move hosts, use the old host's redirect or handoff process so existing listeners can find the new feed.
